Company 1.O

February 2023 marks 10 years for Company O. 10 years since founder Andrew O’Connell took the bold step to walk away from the relative safety of community theatre into the arguably riskier world of independent theatre.

It’s been 10 years since Company O’s inaugural production - one of Oscar Wilde’s lesser-known plays, Salome, which made a small but incisive mark on the independent theatre scene in Sydney. Unsettling and uncompromising, Salome set the scene for what was to come. Indeed, danger, a sense of foreboding, existential dread, angst, and absurdity were to be recurring themes in Company O’s subsequent productions reflected in such plays as Oleanna, Thom Pain, Stuck, Diary of a Madman, professional premises, No Exit, Le Sorelle (‘The Sisters’), and “Art”. (Check out some of reviews here!)

But enough said. Let’s check out 10 years of Company O in images!

10 years of Company O!

Company O is currently performing Yasmina Reza’s Tony-award-winning play “Art” as part of Fringeworld, Perth. Back by popular demand after a sold-out season in 2022, don’t miss this very entertaining and thought-provoking play! (Get tickets!)

So what’s next for Company O? What will the next 10 years bring? Well, the usual stuff: goddesses tearing men to shreds for mansplaining, people talking about nothing on a wasteland, parents outliving their children, mania versus depression, monstrous arrogance, torture, and hubris.

We’ll keep you posted!
